Election Integrity as Pro-Life Stewardship Reflections on President Trump’s Address to the Nation
We give thanks to the Lord for the preservation of President Trump and for the measure of clarity offered in his primetime Address to the Nation on July 16, 2026.
For those of us who have labored in grassroots activism over many years, the speech carried the weight of a historic culmination.
My own path in this work began at age sixteen, when I addressed the city council in Beaumont, Texas. That early engagement centered on pro-life concerns, as it has for so many faithful Catholics.
The protection of innocent life remains foundational. Without life, there can be no meaningful conversation about governance, technology, or the common good.
Yet over time, through the grace of Providence, I came to see that the defense of life itself requires the defense of free and fair elections. Victories such as Dobbs, which rightly returned the issue to the states in our constitutional republic, stand or fall on whether the people’s will is accurately reflected at the ballot box.
If elections cannot be trusted, we risk descending into a banana republic where consent of the governed becomes mere illusion.
The turning point in my understanding came in the aftermath of the Nico LaHood election here in Bexar County and the election of District Attorney Joe Gonzales.
Providence placed me in conversation with Dr. Laura Presley, a PhD computer scientist who has served as an expert witness in federal election cases and remains active on election integrity matters at the Texas Capitol.
At that time, many of us still believed the principal problem was lack of information. Once responsible leaders understood the documented vulnerabilities in voting machines, data processes, and chain of custody, surely they would act.
Laura presented the evidence with technical depth, professional credibility, and firsthand experience. She gave a full and detailed presentation to Republican leadership in Bexar County, including county party officials and SREC members.
What followed taught a difficult lesson. The assumption that knowledge alone would produce reform proved inadequate. Institutional resistance and entrenched interests could persist even after the facts had been placed directly before those with authority to respond.
This providential encounter marked an intellectual conversion. It shifted my view from simple education to a clearer recognition of the deeper challenges involved.
Watching Laura and other technically trained experts present sworn testimony reinforced for me how difficult these issues are for the public to understand and evaluate. I came away convinced that Providence had placed faithful, highly qualified people in positions where their work could illuminate vulnerabilities that many citizens would otherwise never see.
Against that background, last night’s address resonated so deeply because it represented a public acknowledgment at the highest level of what we had seen years earlier through Laura and similar experts.
President Trump detailed findings from the Government Transparency Task Force regarding the compromise of voter registration data by the People’s Republic of China and other adversaries, spanning tens of millions of records across multiple states.
He spoke of suppressed intelligence reporting, methods of digital manipulation refined in places such as Venezuela that can evade standard audits, documented fraud operations including pay-per-registration schemes, and hundreds of thousands of non-citizens identified on voter rolls.
These revelations confirmed the vulnerabilities we had labored to expose at the precinct and county level. The address felt like a victory lap and a culmination after years of quiet work.
What struck me most was President Trump’s commitment to the harder and longer route.
Rather than rushing into sweeping actions that could fracture the country further, he emphasized transparency through declassification, public education, and administrative steps to notify states and secure systems.
This approach reflects a prudent recognition that the persuadable middle, those citizens across party lines who actually take the time to show up and vote, want their ballots to count as cast.
No ordinary American, whether supporting a candidate like Tulsi Gabbard or another, desires their voice manipulated or diluted.
Hasty arrests without laying this foundation risk turning necessary accountability into greater division. Instead, the path of bringing the country along through documented evidence and reasoned reform offers the stronger foundation for lasting justice.
This measured course is consistent with the formation of conscience and the demands of ordered liberty that Catholic social thought has long upheld.
Much work remains at the practical level. The Save America Act represents the minimum necessary baseline.
It requires photo voter ID, proof of citizenship, and strict limits on mail-in ballots to verified exceptions such as illness, disability, military service, or documented travel.
These measures address the most immediate avenues of abuse while deeper county-level reforms proceed on voter rolls, equipment vulnerabilities, and chain-of-custody protocols.
In Texas and places like Bexar County, where election administration is primarily local, such reforms matter especially for down-ballot races, district attorneys, judges, and bond measures that directly affect taxes and governance.
The status quo is indefensible, yet the national security framing of these issues provides leverage for states to act with greater urgency before the midterms.
Deo gratias for the steadfast laborers who have carried this work forward and for the measure of victory already granted.
We urge our representatives in Congress to pass the Save America Act without delay. Citizens should contact their senators and congressmen and support local efforts for clean rolls and verifiable paper processes.
Above all, let us continue in prayer for wisdom and courage. The defense of election integrity flows from the same stewardship that guards innocent life.
One precinct and one truth at a time, we remain committed to the renewal of our republic in fidelity to its founding principles and under the providence of God.
