Texas leads all states for June job gains, as Governor Greg Abbott noted in this statement. Our greatest natural resource is the people of our great state. That strength includes the outstanding men and women who serve in our military. They choose to come to Texas because they feel truly supported here.
The state offers real benefits such as the Hazlewood Act. This program gives Texas veterans and often their families substantial tuition exemptions at our public colleges and universities. It is practical help for building a stable future after service. Add to that our pro-growth policies, respect for duty and sacrifice, and a culture that values self-reliance and faith. These things make Texas a place where military families can put down roots and thrive.
Other states, such as California, have taken a different path. Heavy regulations, high taxes, and policies less aligned with traditional military values have pushed talent away. Elon Musk moved major operations of Tesla and SpaceX to Texas for that very reason. He sought an environment that rewards innovation and hard work instead of punishing it.
Here in Texas we invest in high-demand skills training and work with job creators to expand opportunity. We honor those who defend the nation. This approach explains why we continue to lead in job creation. It is good to see our state recognize the foundation of strong families, faithful service, and freedom that make such progress possible.
