Seven Sorrows Rosary I

  2. Definition of a Rosary The word from Latin rosarium a rose garden refers to a set of prayers (Apostle Creed, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be) that are recited while meditating on the mysteries of Christ’s life. There are twenty mysteries of the rosary divided into four groups of five each: the joyful, sorrowful, glorious and luminous (CCC 2678, 2708)[1]

3rd Major Section on Prayer CC

2678 Medieval piety in the West developed the prayer of the rosary as a popular substitute for the Liturgy of the Hours. In the East, the litany called the Akathistos and the Paraclesis remained closer to the choral office in the Byzantine churches, while the Armenian, Coptic, and Syriac traditions preferred popular hymns and songs to the Mother of God. But in the Ave Maria, the theotokia, the hymns of St. Ephrem or St. Gregory of Narek, the tradition of prayer is basically the same. [971, 1674]

2708 Meditation engages thought, imagination, emotion, and desire. This mobilization of faculties is necessary in order to deepen our convictions of faith, prompt the conversion of our heart, and strengthen our will to follow Christ. Christian prayer tries above all to meditate on the mysteries of Christ, as in lectio divina or the rosary. This form of prayerful reflection is of great value, but Christian prayer should go further: to the knowledge of the love of the Lord Jesus, to union with him. [516, 2678]

The more commonly known mysteries, juxtaposition with lexio divina and the imagination. Engage more deeply with hidden life of Christ. Some need the imagination, whet the appetite greater longer to know our Lady & JC more intimately.

Rosary not a human invention, these four have a nice union

Don’t see these 4 elements fundamental to human knowledge not seen in other prayer forms
