Moses, who wrote the second law Deuteronomy, implored his kinsmen do not fail again. Moses had failed and did not enter the Promise Land. Note well he never ever complained. The People of God failed before and spent 40 years wandering in the desert.
Moses’ Final Blessing on Israel
33 This is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death. …Yea, he loved his people;[c]
all those consecrated to him were in his[d] hand;
so they followed[e] in thy steps,
receiving direction from thee,
4 when Moses commanded us a law,
as a possession for the assembly of Jacob.

Jesus right before His gruesome Passion makes the same plea to those whom He loved
Jn 15: 9-11 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
