Mother of Our Savior
Focuses on her role in bearing Jesus, the Savior of humanity, linking her motherhood directly to the redemption of the world.
- I am a mother (small m) of our Savior when I evangelize to others. More by deeds than by words. When I am honest and striving to be better, offering charity to others, I am giving water to the thirsty. Water/ love/ charity is what mothers give their children. Mary gave this to Jesus. I mirror this action of Mary title when I join my actions to hers for the glory of the Lord.
Interesting reality. Arrogant at times, don’t think we need one. She understands needs of Savior more than we do. When there is a cost, not pleasant to instruct and admonish, enter into maternal element of Savior. Viscerally needs of sacrifice and need.
- These titles collectively portray Mary’s motherhood as both physical and spiritual, divine and human. They span her earthly role as Jesus’ mother to her ongoing intercessory role in heaven. The repetition of “Mother” with various attributes (e.g., “Most Pure,” “Most Chaste”) emphasizes her perfection in motherhood, setting her apart as the ideal. Theologically, they draw from Scripture (e.g., Luke 1:43, “Mother of my Lord”), Tradition, and papal teachings, evolving over centuries to reflect the Church’s deepening understanding of Mary’s role.
- Titles, more reflections of her, not her to them
- She is abstract truth of these concrete realities.
- Focus on her titles of Motherhood it is to engage with her better, as our Lord would have done.
- How can we apply these titles to our own lives as mothers?
- Exhortation- Engage with our Lady during the beautiful month of May. Reflect on her Motherhood of Christ, and as belonging to Christ, she is your mother as well. Find ways suitable to honor her. No one fulfilled the fourth commandment better than Christ of honoring His Mother. Let us imitate His example.
