LIFE WINS IN SAN ANTONIO

LIFE WINS IN SAN ANTONIO

In December 2025, as the Church enters the quiet days of Advent, the San Antonio Family Association continues to defend life in San Antonio. This ongoing work is rooted in a landmark pro life ordinance secured ten years earlier, in December 2015, after sustained legal, legislative, administrative, and cultural efforts that helped save thousands of lives.

On December 17, 2015, the San Antonio Family Association secured a historic victory when the San Antonio City Council passed the city’s first pro life ordinance. The measure prevented abortion facilities from locating next to established residential neighborhoods, despite opposition from city staff.

This victory followed more than thirteen months of full time apostolic work on legal, administrative, legislative, and cultural fronts.

Legally, SAFA’s lawsuit against the City of San Antonio and Planned Parenthood South Texas delayed the licensing of a new abortion facility for more than six months. Court testimony estimated that 1,187 lives were saved during this delay. Depositions revealed ideological favoritism toward the abortion industry by senior city officials. Although intense pressure later forced withdrawal of the lawsuit, key evidence was preserved.

Administratively, SAFA appeared before ten city boards and commissions in more than sixty meetings, twice prevailing over city staff. One board formally urged City Council to reconsider the zoning decision, a request staff refused to honor.

Legislatively, SAFA persistently educated city leaders on life, zoning consistency, property rights, and family protections. A pro life amendment passed by a seven to four vote, including support from some pro abortion Democrats, driven by strong grassroots and parish engagement.

Culturally, SAFA led more than fifty eight prayer vigils and rallies with thousands of participants. This public witness continues weekly today.

Since 2011, SAFA has helped save 2,192 lives and continues defending life in San Antonio.

Life Wins in San Antonio

On December 17, 2015, the San Antonio Family Association achieved a historic pro life victory when the San Antonio City Council passed the city’s first ordinance preventing abortion facilities from locating next to established residential neighborhoods.

This outcome followed more than thirteen months of sustained apostolic work across legal, administrative, legislative, and cultural arenas.

On the legal front, SAFA’s lawsuit against the City of San Antonio and Planned Parenthood South Texas delayed the opening of a new abortion facility for more than six months. Sworn court testimony estimated that 1,187 lives were saved during this period. Depositions exposed ideological favoritism toward the abortion industry among senior city officials. Although the lawsuit was later withdrawn under intense pressure, the evidentiary record was preserved.

Administratively, SAFA appeared before ten city boards and commissions in over sixty meetings, twice prevailing over city staff. One board formally urged City Council to reconsider the zoning decision, a request that was ultimately refused.

Legislatively, SAFA consistently educated city leaders on the protection of life, zoning consistency, property rights, and family integrity. The pro life amendment passed by a seven to four vote, including support from several pro abortion Democrats, due to strong parish involvement and grassroots engagement.

Culturally, SAFA organized more than fifty eight prayer vigils and rallies, drawing thousands in peaceful public witness. This work continues on a weekly basis.

Since 2011, SAFA has helped save 2,192 lives and continues its mission to defend life in San Antonio.
