Governor Ron DeSantis has signaled strong support for eliminating property taxes in Florida. This proposal strikes at the heart of one of the most burdensome and unpopular forms of taxation — a perpetual levy on citizens’ homes and land that many view as fundamentally unfair.
Property taxes force homeowners to continuously “rent” their own property from the government under threat of seizure. Ending them would represent a major victory for personal property rights and limited government.
If Florida successfully moves forward with this initiative, it could ignite a national conversation about whether other states should follow suit and finally end this form of taxation.
